About Us

We started this site to discuss the issues around delivering voice and SMS services over LTE. Voice and SMS continue to be the mobile operator’s two largest revenue generating services, and yet there are serious issues in bringing those services to LTE.

Voice over LTE via the existing 3GPP UMA/GAN standard, also called VoLGA, is a new industry initiative to overcome these problems and bring voice and SMS services to LTE. With VoLGA, these services become simply a packet application delivered over LTE.

I’m Steve Shaw of Kineto Wireless, the leader in delivering mobile services over IP. I’m an evangelist for technologies that enable mobile operators to achieve the cost and performance advantages of IP. Mobile operators need solutions like VoLGA and UMA to counter the threat from over-the-top VoIP providers.

Volga-forum-trans-home Kineto is a founding member of the VoLGA Forum. Comprised of leaders in the wireless industry, the forum seeks to enable mobile operators to deliver mobile voice and messaging services over LTE access networks based on the 3GPP GAN standard.

Smart Wi-Fi Logo Kineto is a founding member of Smart WiFi, an international consortium of companies joined together to lead the adoption of 3GPP UMA/GAN technology around the world.
